Gearing up

More and more I find myself not having the time to write here, and more worryingly, not the substance either. Each day is more or less a a repeat of the day before, and a copy of the one succeeding. About the only things breaking the monotony are tuesdays, for the soccer and meetups, and perhaps weekends, for the chance to continue my alter ego in the digital world. This last week tho, has been rather eventful.

In a flash of brilliance (or misguided arrogance) I've signed up for the full Standard CHartered Marathon. This considering that I spent most of the first half of this year alternately limping because of ankle injuries (to both ankles) and to the tortures from the plantar wart. But now both of these are resolved, enough ppl are signing up that I have no excuse short of cowardice, and I rather badly need to feel that I am capable of something, anything at all. So thus my fate is sealed. At least the training so far (while still not enough) has been smooth sailing; feels damn good to be running again. Those who promised me they'd sign up; u know who u are, please make good haha...

It's been a week of discoveries, not all of them pleasant. Amongst the more embarrassing ones is just how deep my ignorance flows. Not a good thing to discover when the test is all of 2 weeks away (maybe less). But somehow I never seem to have e energy to study either; I have no problems talking to patients, or examining all manner of weird things. But it's bloody difficult to sit down with a book and get e basic knowledge I need in the first place. This is not gonna get any easier sigh...

First night call yesterday; the HO was truly exemplary. Even when rushed off her feet, with calls coming in every few minutes, she can still find the time to teach us, to make us clerk and examine, to correct our numerous mistakes, and generally make sure we feel included in the activities, and even sticking up for us against overbearing nurses. Yesterday was an eye opener in several senses of the word; while it wasn't a v useful call in terms of preparing for the test, I think it was still a vital experience.

More drama mama here; now I see where serials like Grey's anat or scrubs draw their materiel from. Just don't drag us into it please...

I doubt I'm going to miss this posting much when it ends. Medicine is a truly fascinating subject, and I can feel the beginnings of understanding dawning, but there's been too much unnecessary distraction, too much melodrama to have gotten the most out of it. Whatever the case, another signal to raise the emotional barriers, and block it all out in every sense of the word.

I'm a day early, and I dunno when u'd read this again. But here's a short tribute to one of my oldest, dearest and most frustrating friends in medfac haha. We've gone thru so many things together, so many talks and discussions about everything at all. Ultimately, I think u're one of those that made this med experience such a memorable one, and I hope u continue to do so as well haha. Happy 21st Siying!
