We're thrown into the deep end here; barely 1 day after getting elected, summoned to meet one of the big shots here in sch, for an informal chitchat session. I went in not expecting anything much, just a casual meeting to establish contact. Instead, there found ourselves discussing projects capable of making much impact, and making some much needed changes to school life. I have no quarrel with these.
But with the other part, with the bit on the changes happening to our beloved school itself, I had lots to say. Bear with me here; for I couldn't reasonably say it there to his face. Last I checked, this was a SCHOOL, the primary aim of which was to train us! Why then does it feel like we've become nothing more than an afterthought, worth not even a speck of consideration? You knock down our library, the heart and home of countless students and doctors, and replace it with some enormous shit of a building devoted entirely to research. Research in and of itself is not a bad idea, but where are your priorities? I for one was very disturbed. The money may be in the research in future, but what manner of idiocy is it to bludgeon us into doing something we do not want to do, just for your benefit? So much for your high moral authority. And the simple act of telling us that the library is going to go is so difficult that it requires a plan, that it can't be done in advance, and so we're left scrambling at rumours barely 1 month before it gets demolished. This is absolutely moronic. Condescending tone and patronising manner aside; I've completely lost faith in you doing anything for our (the students) benefit; all you can see is the glory and money. Painfully clear in the other idiotic suggestion u put to us.
On to better points; once more we managed to squeeze out time and get together for a talk cock session. Some friendships the years do not manage to chip away at, and these certainly pass the test of time with flying colours. We might have been talking about inconsequential things, we might not have made earth shattering revelations. But the simple fact that we have enough time for each other, even after so long feels pretty damn good. Kudos, cricket dudes! Looking forward to the next time already. Some of u buggers better get attached by then! haha.
And congrats!! YOU DA MAN! Completely made my day, and my week haha.

i know how frustrating it can be bro. It's lousy when you know everything you say is not going to help much because the authority which asks for feedback pretty much does not act on it at all. The funny thing is that with so many other pressing issures, they want to start a sports club?!!
Well, I know you enough to know that you'll be doing your best bit mann! Here's to more student autonomy!

yo. haha luckily this is a *PRIVATE* blog. but.. i really agree: what the F is med trying to do - pushing research ahead of its clinical students. join science lah if you were so damn interested in testtubes. personally i've done both lab work and clinics - theres really very little overlap.
more transparency and respect to mature thinking med students!
sunder, my new boss, please move the notion yah? :)
so good to see things working though.
