Vanguards Memories

Things I will remember from these 12 weeks, in no particular order:

- Booking in in black and white for the first time, lugging that huge ali baba bag, the fear and uncertainty
- getting yelled at by PC and Warrant Wong for the first time
- the resignation of everything in and out a few times, watching my things all get mixed up and dusty
- the horror of climbing 8 storeys with that huge bag, and area cleaning in black and white
- the sheer physical torture of the first few stand by areas; doing push ups and crunches and half squats endlessly
- the pain of losing simple freedoms taken for granted, like the right to cross your arms, or to use the vending machine
- weekends that were measured in hours, not days
- waking up every morning with half my body screaming in pain, and abusing it further during the day; repeating this process until the short weekend respite
- the pain of doing pullups before every meals; from 12->16->20, and the despair when it failed to improve
- the wonder when suddenly we realise how much we have improved; where once it took an entire section to carry 1 casualty 2km in SBO, during saviour it was 5 or 6 to 1 stretcher in FBO for 8km
- the joy at attaining ridiculous standards like 34/48 marksmen and 26/48 IPPT gold
- those evenings where u can pick which group to join: the gym, the Jumping Club, the Guitar Gang and so on
- Learning Corner during lectures!
- the stolen moments talking cock between lectures, during meals and everywhere else in between
- that feeling standing proud in the auditorium, as my parents changed the cadet rank to captain; priceless!
- the only thing better than that feeling, looking around and seeing the other 44 captains' bars shining under the lights, and knowing we all somehow made it through

there will be tough times ahead, but for now, this is enough. Thanks to all of you, who supported me throughout this journey.
